About

Let's open conversations and unpack mental health.

Welcome to my blog, The J Word.

I am 34 years old and Self Employed. I am a mother of one teenage daughter, one gorgeous Border Collie and two cantankerous cats. My wonderful partner Chris and I share a sweet little home that we are slowly renovating. Our home is an original farmstead which is over 100 years old, so the renovations are always interesting.

I am a former corporate career woman who had a quarter-life crisis, returned the company car, jumped off the ladder and decided to live a simpler life. I packed up my house, daughter (not literally), house plants, and we set out on a new adventure together.

We moved from Auckland to the regions in New Zealand. More specifically, Taranaki. We found a beautiful spot in a small town called Okato to settle into, and five+ years on, we haven’t looked back. The move felt like a massive gamble at the time, but it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

The purpose of this blog is to share my interests and thoughts with like-minded people. Building friendships and sharing the knowledge I have gained so far along this journey called life. Maybe you’ll even be able to relate to some of it.

So, what exactly am I interested in, you wonder. If I had to pick five topics that spring to mind, they would be; Gardening, Food, Exercise, Mental Health & Well-being. I care about sustainability and the environment and try to live my life producing as little waste as possible.

I am excited to have this new outlet for my insights, pondering, and findings, so I hope you enjoy it!

Vulnerability is not winning or losing. It's having the courage to show up when you can't control the outcome.
